Ibusa Association National Patron's Response To The
Washington Function
To:       The Sons and Daughters of Ibusa

From:    The Patrons of Ibusa Association USA, Inc.

Adina Ofu Obi – Ibusa Ana Ga Nihu

The state of our Association has not been good. The seemingly
irreconcilable differences between Baltimore/Washington chapter
(from now known as the chapter) and the National Executive
Committee (NEC) have reached a point where the survival of our
association has been seriously threatened.  We are now at a
crossroad.  Some of you who are not well-informed must be
asking – where are our patrons?

As patrons, we are well aware of our limitations in the
Constitution.  We have, therefore, individually and collectively been
operating primarily on an advisory capacity with the aim of
avoiding the impasse created by the problem between the chapter
and the NEC.  We tried, but time was not on our side.

Sometime in June, 2008, the following patrons met several times
via teleconference:
    Professor Chimgolum Nwabueze
    Dr. Michael Obata
    Mr. Austin Nwaezeapu
Professor Augustine O. Esogbue did not participate because he
was out of the country.

The purpose of our meetings was to find a way to reach a
compromise between the chapter and the NEC.  After careful
deliberations, we unanimously agreed as follows:

That we would recommend to the NEC that all the sons and
daughters of Ibusa would go to Washington for the convention
planned for August 30, 2008, on condition that the chapter would
first sign the guideline with some qualifications.

By that, we meant that out of about 14 items on the “controversial”
guideline, that the chapter should be given another chance to sign
and then underline the items they reject.  It would have been
unreasonable to expect that the chapter would reject the entire
guideline because it contained some important issues that would
benefit the association.

We mandated Professor Nwabueze to present our recommendation
to the chapter while Dr. Obata and Mr. Nwaezeapu were assigned
to communicate with other NEC members.

During our meeting on July 9, 2008, Professor Nwabueze
confirmed that he had, indeed, made contact with the chapter and
that he was waiting for their feedback.  A similar situation was
reported about the NEC by Dr. Obata and Mr. Nwaezeapu. Up to
August 30, 2008, the day the convention was supposed to hold, the
chapter did not accept or reject our offer and the NEC did not react
either; apparently, the NEC was waiting to see where the chapter
was leaning to.

It is now history that on August 30, 2008, that something very
serious happened in Washington, DC. The chapter had their fund
raiser and at the same time, they decided to conduct an “election”
contrary to the constitutional guidelines and thereby created a
faction. This action, if allowed to stay, will have serious
implications for our Association. The consequences will be grave
and lamentable.

We are convinced that any Ibusa son or daughter who believes in
our motto: “Adina Ofu Obi – Ibusa Ana Ga Nihu”, and the sustain
ability of our National Association which we all have nurtured since
its inception,  will fight, tooth and nail, to make sure that Ibusa
Association, USA is not torn asunder.

We recognize that there was a very serious miscommunication
between the chapter and the NEC.  It is not uncommon for
brothers and sisters to have some misunderstanding.  We believe,
however, that if these issues are approached constitutionally,
democratically, and with equanimity, these differences will be
resolved amicably and we will become a stronger and not a weaker
Association.

For the above reasons, we the patrons declare for peace and
stronger Ibusa Association.  In view of the foregoing, we hereby
recommend to the NEC to set a date and location for our next
meeting or mini Convention.  On that day, we will attempt to
resolve our differences and elect new officers in accordance with
our much cherished Constitution, to succeed the current
administration.  Every chapter will be expected to send their official
delegates by following the guidelines provided in our Constitution.
If there are some serious concerns a chapter has with the
Constitution, we recommend that a Constitutional Review
Committee be appointed at that meeting to address them.

We encourage all of you to come on board and let us regain the
momentum that has helped us to achieve better results since 2002.
If we work together, we will be a better and stronger Association.

Long live Ibusa Association, USA.
