                                Chapter One

Dear Members,

We pray that this message of goodwill we convey is taking in good
faith without mixed feeling(s). The objective is to give members
some background reasons for the decision made by the National
Association to abstain from having a convention in Washington DC.

It all started on Sunday morning February 17, 2008, just 7 hours
right after the February 16, 2008 National Executive Committee
meeting that was bogged with lots of wrangling.

The current elected and appointed National executive of Ibusa
Association USA, Inc. (back row), Mr. Phillip Nzegbuna, Mr.
Johnny Monu, (Front row), Mr. Ashimedua Obata, Mrs. Ogugwa
Odume, Chief Augustine Odume and Mrs. Sinchieze Nwabudike

The National Executive committee is a body made of the National
elected and appointed officers and, chapter presidents or their
delegated representatives, with sound and constructive minds.
Members of the National executive committee are representatives of
the Ibusa people duly elected into various positions by the Ibusa
people, on a National or local level. The Committee usually selects
and endorses the appointed officers through a consensus method
that entailed no casting of votes. Therefore, the National executive
Committee is the true representative of the Ibusa people authorized
by virtue of their election to speak and act on behalf of the Ibusa
people. Let us stop kidding ourselves about waiting to
settle/adopt/approve things on the convention floors prior to doing
anything on the National level. If this is the case, one then wonders
the rationale behind the existence and purpose of the National
executive Committee. Again, let us remember where we are coming
from and ask these questions: What does it mean to have the
election of presidents? Why are we encouraged in the first place to
have national conference calls? The idea of waiting for the
Association to meet on the convention floor two years after the last
convention, prior to making any decisions is not only ridiculous, but
also very awkward.

The current National Executive members and some Ibusa Patrons

The world is changing is not a subject of controversy anymore. It is
a reality that has kept political and business leaders and people from
all walks of life on their toes. Those who appreciate the inevitability
of changing situations and circumstances around us are those who
see beyond the façade, with natural imbue and pumped strength to
withstand the surprise shocks that are often associated with these
changes. Those with phobia for a change often fail to organize their
affairs before the sweeping tide of change catches up with them.
For effective preparation for a change, and to ensure the relevance
of any organization in the emerging social order, therefore, experts
say a leader has to emerge, “A leader that is ready to take the
association to the next level”. We are sick and tired of seeing some
of us not embracing changes if such changes do not emanate from
them. You do not create problems while trying to solve them. Some
of us only want to remember things that match their conscious
mind. All these put together points to one thing-------- Document!
Document!! Document!!!

We cannot keep going in a circle. People need to read e-mails,
letters, and minutes of meetings and above all, the revised
constitution of Ibusa National Association to keep abreast with
happenings in the association. This actually will drastically reduce
the number of blind augments we throw up, trading words and the
political melodrama that play out at our meetings. For example, the
convention clause churned out and enshrined in section 8 of the
2004-revised constitution, which deals with National Conventions,
sub-section 9.1 stipulates, “The National President under the advice
of the National executive committee is solely responsible for the
formulation and attainment of a common goal, and theme for any
proposed fund raiser in a convention year.”  Based on the above
listed code, the National executive Committee introduced a guideline
tailored toward successful National conventions. The said guideline
read paragraph by paragraph for the first time at a National
Executive committee conference call and members asked to come
up with suggestions, and inputs before the Committee approved the
document in its entirety. This very conference call took place in late
September 2007. The National Secretary sent this document to each
chapter president via e-mail, for further deliberation by the chapter
members. Shortly afterwards, we all met again in November 2007,
talked about this same document. In February 2008, during a
conference call of the National Executive committee, a member of
the National executive committee claimed that, he had not heard nor
seen this document. The person in question, despite being presented
with evidence (minutes of past conference calls) where he has
participated in the discussions of the guideline documents, still
insisted he was not aware nor seen the guideline document. It has
now come to a point where he is infringing on the integrity of the
National Committee, as if we just went out of our way to impose
the guidelines on the chapters.

This is what we call going round in circles. This is Ibusa
Association USA embroiled in an antagonistic political bickering.
This Association cannot run on Yali nu! Yali NU! Yali-Nu at all
times. We all are educated people and live in a very decent, civilized
and democratic society. Please ladies and gentle men let us act
accordingly. Ibusa people should learn to talk about principles, not
about, he/she is kinsman/brother/sister or he is my friend. Even if
your brother is wrong, you should tell him. If we keep covering up
cases of wrongdoing, we will never make progress. There is no
point bringing the National Committee into disrepute. Let us stop
playing the politics of antagonism with the association and get rid of
the lunatic fringe wrangling in the association.

                               Chapter Two

Let us take a step into history. The Association came on board
twelve years ago. How did the Association conduct National
Convention in the past? What were the results? Did the National
Association carry out any project before 2004? What was in the
Association’s National Coffers? What was the relationship between
the National Association and her chapters before 2000? Was there
any National Convention Budget presented to the national body
before 2006?

In the past, the hosting of a National convention rested on individual
chapters. The venue, time, agenda for the convention and the cost
of hosting the convention was the responsibility of the individual
chapter to decide. The only working relationship that existed
between the National Association and the host chapter was the
doling out of $500.00 to the latter. Composition of attendees was
mostly members of the host chapter and a handful of members
from other chapters. The association had two National conventions
before 2000, One in Washington DC and the Other in Chicago. For
those Ibusa sons and daughters who were present at that time and
still alive would remember and attest to what happened after these
conventions. All we keep hearing is that, Washington chapter gave
an account. The question now is what account? Where are the
records? Where are the documents? What was the outcome of the
First Washington convention in cash terms?

Nothing came out of the event in Chicago besides the election of
Mr. Iwugo as the president of the National Association. Mr. Iwugo
could not even muster a national convention. No chapter was
willing to undertake the national event because of the cost and time
involved. After some arm twisting, Atlanta chapter then stepped in,
and hosted a National meeting, not a national convention in 2000 in
spite of having had a fund raiser the previous year (1999). Members
of the Atlanta Chapter knew how much each family doled out and
the energy involved in organizing the local function, and so kicked
against the idea to host a National function a year later. This meeting
devoid of a gala night served as a regrouping forum for the national
association.

As at 2000, the National Association could not boast of $1,000.00 in
its account. In some cases the account was dormant. The 30-
member meeting, besides raising the sum of $1,000.00 for the
security of Ibusa, witnessed the election of Attorney Nwuli as the
new helmsman of the Association

This was our National Almanac that was never sold or given to
Ibusa Association USA members for free.

Nwuli on becoming the President promised to host the 2002
convention in Houston TX. Again, we all knew what happened.
Regardless of the excuses attributed to his failure, the convention
did not take place in Houston.

In September of 2002, the Southern California chapter came on a
rescue mission and made a clarion call for a National meeting. There
was a party without an elaborate gala night and fundraiser the Ibusa
people were familiar. As was the norm then, the California chapter
received the sum of $500.00 from the National Association to
defray some of the cost incurred to host the National meeting.
At the end of this meeting, Dr Caesar Adigwe emerged as the new
anchor and the New York chapter got the mandate to host the
National convention in 2004.
Again, four years rolled by (1998-2002), no execution of any
project, nor were there money raised.
